Johor Bahru, Malaysia, April 21 (Bernama) -- UOB announced on 20 Apil 2026 that it has actively facilitated more than RM18 billion¹ in foreign direct investments (FDI) flows into the Johor - Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). This reflects the effectiveness of a public-private collaboration, following the launch of UOB’s Green Lane with Invest Johor last year²

At the UOB-Invest Johor JS-SEZ Strategic Forum 2026 held today, the Bank announced two new investor commitments of more than RM1 billion to be facilitated through the UOB Green Lane. These commitments signal continued progress for cross-border investments and regional supply chain integration. The Bank also launched its UOB My Digital Space (MDS) in Malaysia, as part of its broader commitment to community and talent development.

YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi, Menteri Besar of Johor, said, The strong partnership between Invest Johor and UOB reflects how well-aligned public-private collaboration can deliver real results, attracting high-quality investments, creating skilled jobs and generating meaningful impact on the ground. We value UOB’s continued support in advancing the Johor State Government’s clear strategy, consistent execution and investor-focused approach in positioning the JS-SEZ as a credible and competitive investment destination. Our priority is clear. Every investment secured must translate into real outcomes, including better job opportunities, stronger local industries and lasting value for every Johorean.”

Ms Ng Wei Wei, Chief Executive Officer, UOB Malaysia, said, “From the outset, UOB has focused on practical enablers to turn interest into action. Combining Johor’s development priorities with Singapore’s role as a global business hub enables companies on both sides of the Causeway to execute cross-border opportunities effectively. Partnering Invest Johor, MIDA, IRDA and other stakeholders, we continue to facilitate high value investments into the JS-SEZ from multiple countries, strengthen supply chain connectivity while delivering economic benefits for Malaysia and Singapore.”

Commitments from key investors - GSP Automotive Malaysia and Paragon Globe, and JT Automation Technology, presented their Letters of Intent to Tuan Haji Natazha Hariss, CEO of Invest Johor, on their plans to invest and expand operations within the JS-SEZ. The presentation was witnessed by YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz; YB Lee Ting Han, Johor State EXCO Member for Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources; and Ms Ng.

The UOB – Invest Johor Strategic Forum 2026 was jointly supported by EcoWorld, Knight Frank Malaysia, Liberty General Insurance Berhad and RDS Partnership. Attended by more than 400 delegates, the Forum attracted prospective investors from abroad, multinational corporations, small- and medium-sized enterprises, alongside representatives from business chambers and trade associations.

Going beyond banking to build the future pipeline of talent
The UOB My Digital Space is the Bank’s education initiative designed to empower students to think critically and use technology responsibly.

Ms Ng added, "Beyond driving investments into the JS-SEZ, UOB is committed to developing future-ready talent for the digital age. We are proud to officially launch the Bank's flagship education programme in Malaysia, starting with Johor. Our programme is designed to help students build foundational digital skills, AI awareness and confidence through structured modules."

MDS is now implemented in various stages across key markets in ASEAN and Greater China, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong. It is expected to benefit more than 100,000 students regionally, helping to bridge the digital divide. In Malaysia, the programme has evolved into a multi-year initiative, culminating in its official launch today. MDS focuses on educating students aged 10 to 16 years, aligning with national priorities on digital inclusion and prepare the youths for the future.
