KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) expresses its highest appreciation to Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), for his official visit to Malaysia. This visit reflects the close, strategic, and continuous cooperation between Malaysia and the WHO in strengthening preparedness, health system resilience, and enhancing response capabilities toward global health challenges.
During the meeting, Dr. Tedros expressed his appreciation for Malaysia's commitment and active involvement in international health issues, as well as its constructive role in strengthening global cooperation based on solidarity. This visit brings direct positive implications for the Malaysian people regarding public health prevention, preparedness, and response through the ongoing Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS) negotiations under the Intergovernmental Working Group (IGWG).
This cooperation also strengthens Malaysia’s preparedness and early warning systems against infectious disease threats through negotiations on the amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) and the Pandemic Agreement. Such efforts ensure Malaysia can detect and respond more swiftly to any future health crises, thereby minimizing disruptions to the people’s economic activities and social continuity.
The Honorable Minister of Health emphasized that Malaysia’s active involvement at the WHO level is to ensure that the voices of Malaysians continue to be prioritized in the global health arena. Malaysia remains committed to ongoing collaboration with the WHO to ensure the national health system remains at the highest level, inclusive, and prepared to face any future global health challenges for the well-being of the people.
