KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad (“SME Bank” or “the Bank”), a subsidiary of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (“BPMB”) Group, today announced the appointment of
Zulkiflee Hashim as Chairman of SME Bank, effective 6 March 2026. Zulkiflee was first appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of SME Bank on 6 March 2019, where he has since contributed to strengthening the Bank’s governance and providing strategic oversight in support of its developmental mandate.
He brings more than 35 years of experience in the banking industry, with leadership roles across Citibank Malaysia, Deutsche Bank Malaysia and Hong Leong Bank Berhad. He previously served as Executive Director of Hong Leong Bank Berhad from July 1998 to October 2011, and prior to his retirement in 2015, held the position of Chief Operating Officer, Group Strategic Support.
Zulkiflee currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Berhad and Al Rajhi Banking & Investment Corporation (Malaysia) Bhd. He previously served on the boards of GuocoLand (Malaysia) Berhad and Hong Leong Bank Berhad.
