UNIRAZAK Honours His Excellency The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Bin Tuanku Jaafar, with Honorary Doctorate in Management

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- At its 24^th Convocation Ceremony today, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) celebrated a leader whose life story reflects courage, integrity, and nation-building at its most profound. UNIRAZAK proudly conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Management upon His Excellency The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Bin Tuanku Jaafar. His Excellency was accompanied by Her Most Gracious Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi as well as Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works.

In conjunction with the 24^th Convocation Ceremony, UNIRAZAK also presented a special tribute to Her Most Gracious Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi through the naming of a newly registered hybrid orchid in her honour, known as Orkid Fauziah.
 
The new Phalaenopsis hybrid orchid is distinguished by its soft hues and uniquely captivating patterns, reflecting elegance, grace, and refinement. The naming of Orkid Fauziah symbolises UNIRAZAK’s recognition of Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah’s distinguished personality and contributions, acknowledging her as a woman of noble character, humility, and quiet yet commanding presence.
 
His Excellency Tun’s story begins with service on the ground. His early career saw him trained as a road planner and designer with the Public Works Department Sarawak. He later stepped into the frontlines of national security, serving first in the Sarawak Constabulary and subsequently the Royal Malaysia Police, safeguarding peace during one of the most challenging periods in Malaysian history.
 
His Excellency Tun’s path then evolved into the legal and legislative realms, where he pursued advanced legal studies in England and applied his expertise to strengthen Malaysian institutions. As a respected parliamentarian and national leader, His Excellency Tun introduced significant laws and constitutional amendments, particularly during a sensitive period of national transition, that enhanced governance, elevated parliamentary integrity, and reinforced public trust.
 
His Excellency portfolio extended to the environmental sector when he served as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, championing sustainable resource management and regional haze-mitigation efforts, protecting Malaysia’s forests and rivers but also improved the health and well-being of Malaysians.
 
Across every chapter of his career, security, law, Parliament, environment, and state leadership, His Excellency Tun has embodied a leadership style rooted in integrity, fairness, clarity of judgement, and deep compassion for people.

Beyond official duties, His Excellency Tun is a prolific writer, producing important works such as Evolusi Parlimen, Evolusi Speaker Parlimen Malaysia, and A Policeman, the latter reflecting his 13 years of experience in the police force. His writings are more than historical records, they are contributions to knowledge, values, and national memory, reflecting his belief that leadership must educate, enlighten, and leave a legacy for those who come after.
 
His Excellency Tun’s relationship with UNIRAZAK is marked by a moment of profound impact. Speaking at the convocation ceremony, UNIRAZAK’s Pro-Chancellor YBhg. Dato’ Mohamed Nizam Tun Abdul Razak expressed deep gratitude, recalling how His Excellency Tun stepped forward during a defining challenge in the university’s history.
 
“It was through His Excellency Tun’s intervention that we were granted a second lifeline”, the Pro-Chancellor said, describing the experience as a true embodiment of “Breaking Through”, the theme of this year’s ceremony. His Excellency Tun’s decisive leadership and steady guidance helped the university transform adversity into renewed strength, a turning point that UNIRAZAK continues to honour and cherish.
 
During the ceremony, UNIRAZAK Vice-Chancellor YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Samsinar Md Sidin delivered the official citation, describing His Excellency Tun’s life work as a masterclass in management, the management of institutions with integrity, of people with compassion, and of change with foresight.
 
She emphasised that His Excellency Tun’s qualities such as courage, adaptability, resilience, and vision are precisely the attributes UNIRAZAK seeks to instil in its graduates.
 
With this, UNIRAZAK formally and proudly conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Management upon His Excellency The Governor of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Bin Tuanku Jaafar. This honour stands as recognition of his contributions to Malaysia and values that continue to inspire the UNIRAZAK community and future generations of Malaysian leaders.
