KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- UEM Edgenta Berhad (“UEM Edgenta” or “the Company”), Malaysia’s leading Asset Management and Infrastructure Solutions company, celebrated the graduation of 15 Bumiputera vendors under its Vendor Development Programme (VDP) and welcomed six (6) new participants under its third cohort during a ceremony held at the UEM Edgenta Learning Centre.

Attended by representatives from the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (MECD) and key industry partners, the event marked a significant milestone in UEM Edgenta’s journey to strengthen local entrepreneurship and build a competitive, sustainable vendor ecosystem. Introduced in 2021, UEM Edgenta’s VDP aims to nurture resilient and capable Bumiputera vendors through structured training, mentorship, and performance assessments. The programme supports Malaysia’s broader economic aspirations under the 12th and upcoming 13th Malaysia Plans, Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (Wawasan Kemakmuran Bersama 2030), and the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030, particularly in developing strong, future-ready local enterprises.

To date, 15 vendors from Cohorts 1 and 2 have successfully completed the programme, demonstrating growth, innovation, and business agility. Several have diversified into new sectors such as healthcare support, infrastructure, and property and facilities management. The programme has also facilitated access to new business opportunities and financing, with participants collectively securing approximately RM1.68 million in grants for machinery upgrades, system enhancements, and certifications.

Since its inception, the results of the VDP have further reinforced UEM Edgenta’s commitment to strengthening local vendor capabilities. Notably, participating vendors recorded an average revenue growth of 30% during their time in the programme, along with a 23% increase in new business secured directly from Edgenta. These achievements underscore the programme’s effectiveness in driving measurable growth, building resilience, and creating long-term value for the vendor ecosystem.

Among the programme’s highlights are business matching sessions, supplier benchmarking, and a technology and knowledge exchange programme in Beijing and Shanghai, China, which expanded participants’ perspectives and set new benchmarks for operational excellence.

Speaking at the event, Ahmad Fazril Fauzi, Chief Financial Officer of UEM Edgenta, said, “The VDP reflects our firm belief that empowering local entrepreneurs is key to building an inclusive, sustainable and future-ready economy. This initiative not only strengthens UEM Edgenta’s supply chain ecosystem but also aligns closely with national aspirations to uplift Bumiputera enterprises and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as strategic partners in Malaysia’s economic growth.”

Fazril also added, “The success of the programme demonstrates the potential of strategic collaboration between the private sector and government agencies to accelerate local capability development. As we continue to scale the programme, our focus will remain on nurturing innovation, encouraging operational excellence, and creating long-term socio-economic value that extends beyond our business to the wider community.”

Also sharing her thoughts, YBhg. Datuk Saidatu Akhma Hassan, Deputy Secretary-General (Entrepreneurship Development), MECD, commended the initiative, “UEM Edgenta’s Vendor Development Programme is an excellent example of how collaboration between the Government and private sector can drive entrepreneurship and strengthen national supply chain resilience. Such partnerships are vital to achieving the goals of the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 and ensuring Bumiputera vendors remain competitive and sustainable in a rapidly changing business environment.”

“MECD is committed to expanding its engagement with industry leaders like UEM Edgenta to create more meaningful opportunities for entrepreneurs nationwide. By leveraging innovation, digitalisation, and capacity-building initiatives, we can elevate Bumiputera vendors to compete not only locally but also on the regional and global stage,” she added.

Supported by strategic enablers including the Ministry of Finance (MOF), SME Bank, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance (MIDF), Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), the Vendor Development Programme remains a cornerstone of UEM Edgenta’s sustainability and growth agenda, empowering local businesses to thrive while reinforcing the Company’s commitment to responsible supply chain development. Through continued collaboration with government agencies and industry partners, UEM Edgenta aims to build a network of high-performing Bumiputera vendors who can compete confidently across regional and global markets.

This graduation marks the completion of the first phase of the VDP, signifying an important milestone in UEM Edgenta’s commitment to nurturing local vendor capabilities. Building on this success, the Company plans to introduce the second phase of the programme for selected graduates, aimed at further enhancing their competencies and business capacity.
