Four-day business summit positions Selangor as ASEAN's trade and investment gateway KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025 has opened at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, uniting more than 700 exhibitors and 50,000 visitors over four days. The summit reaffirms its position as one of Southeast Asia’s leading business platforms driving trade, innovation, and investment.
The opening ceremony was graced by His Royal Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Crown Prince of Selangor. Also present were YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, and YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor.
This year’s summit marks a pivotal moment for Selangor as the state government unveiled several key initiatives aimed at accelerating sustainable industrial growth and enhancing investor confidence.
The ceremony witnessed the exchanged of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Air Lestari Sdn Bhd (ALSB), Heliosel Sdn Bhd, and Smartsel Sdn Bhd (SMARTSEL) — subsidiaries of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Selangor — and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). The collaboration seeks to explore joint efforts in water reclamation, smart manufacturing, and energy transition, leveraging MBI’s innovation-driven ecosystem and FMM’s vast industrial network.
The MoU was exchanged by YBhg. Dato' Haji Ts. Saipolyazan bin Mat Yusop, Group Chief Executive Officer of MBI Selangor, and YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President of FMM.
Selangor also launched the Selangor Agenda for Green Economy (SAGE) — a comprehensive 10-year roadmap to position the state as Malaysia’s leader in sustainable economic transformation. Aligned with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and global sustainability goals, SAGE charts a clear course toward carbon neutrality by 2050. It focuses on building a low-carbon economy, fostering a clean-energy foundation, and advancing green innovation through a just transition and strong governance.
Structured around four energy portfolios — brown, sustainable, renewable, and new energy — SAGE aims to strengthen energy security, spur green innovation, and attract up to RM63 billion in investments by 2035, contributing to a 35 percent clean-energy mix and creating thousands of quality jobs.
The launch of SPEED Selangor marked another major highlight, underscoring the state’s commitment to business efficiency, investor confidence, and accelerated growth. The policy framework unifies existing fast-track approval systems across local councils into a single streamlined process, targeting to reduce approval times from three and a half months to 9 days. Initially focused on development and investment- related approvals, the initiative may later expand to include public services such as citizen complaints and home renovation permits.
Among its innovations, an Industrial Green Lane will allow completed projects to obtain business licences within 24 hours, while a new high-impact project management system will enhance transparency and accountability by tracking project progress, budgets, and delivery outcomes. Together, these initiatives strengthen Selangor’s competitiveness and reinforce its position as Malaysia’s most investor-friendly state.
