OPENING REMARKS BY AEM CHAIR

Excellencies,

Good afternoon. It is with great pleasure that I welcome Mr. Kondratiev, Director-General of the Department for Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects, Ministry of Economic Development and delegation to the 14th ASEAN Russia Consultation.

ASEAN and Russia share a long-standing relationship, officially established in July 1996 during the 29th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in Jakarta, Indonesia, when Russia was endorsed as a full Dialogue Partner.

Since then, ASEAN and Russia have continued to strengthen cooperation in priority areas, including trade and investment facilitation, energy, logistics chain development, and technology, among others.

In terms of trade and investment, in 2024 Russia was ASEAN’s 10th largest trading partner, with total trade amounting to US$18.13 billion, and the 11th largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) among ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, valued at US$65.17 million.

Excellencies,

Today’s consultation provides a valuable platform to exchange views, take stock of progress, and explore new pathways to further strengthen ASEAN-Russia economic cooperation, particularly through the continued advancement of the ASEAN-Russia Trade and Investment Work Programme.

I am confident that, guided by the spirit of partnership and mutual respect, our discussions today will help reinforce the foundations of ASEAN-Russia economic ties and pave the way for even greater cooperation in the years ahead.

Thank You

I would now like to invite Mr. Kondratiev to deliver your opening remarks.

[After remarks from Russia]
