MEDIA ADVISORY

Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair for 2025, will host the 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (57th AEM) Meeting and Related Meetings from 22 to 26 September 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.

This flagship event will bring together ASEAN Economic Ministers and dialogue partners to deliberate on advancing regional economic integration and addressing key trade and investment issues.

1. Customs Clearance Requirements for Media Equipment
 
Media representatives intending to bring equipment into Malaysia must comply with the following customs procedures:
 
●  Customs Importation Form
A complete Customs Importation Form must be submitted, including a detailed inventory specifying the make, model, and serial number of each item.
 
● ATA Carnet Requirement
All professional equipment must be covered by an ATA Carnet, obtainable from the respective national Customs authority. The Carnet serves as the official declaration for the temporary importation.
 
●  Arrival Procedures in Malaysia
The ATA Carnet must be presented to Malaysian Customs upon arrival. It must already bear endorsement from Customs in the country of origin to confirm that the listed equipment will be re-exported.

●  Official Endorsement
The ATA Carnet will serve as the official endorsement for all listed equipment used temporarily in Malaysia.
 
● Liaison with Malaysian Authorities
Media representatives and embassies are encouraged to liaise directly with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department for further guidance.

2. Media Accreditation

Accreditation is required for all journalists, photographers, broadcasters, and Official Media (OM) from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Timor-Leste.

* Initial registration: 2 – 12 September 2025

* Extended deadline: 20 September 2025 

Please note that notification regarding registration will be sent to the respective email.

On-site media registration is not available.

2.1 Registration Requirements
Applicants must upload:
 
● A recent passport-sized photograph.
● Updated media profile.
● Valid press card.
● A letter of assignment endorsed by their media organisation (compulsory for all, including OM AMS).

Once approved, the media representatives will receive accreditation passes and information kits at the International Media Centre (IMC). The passes are mandatory for access to all meeting venues and must be worn at all times.

2.2 Pass Collection

Media representatives are responsible for their own travel and accommodation. The organiser bears no responsibility for expenses or third-party services. Bookings should be made directly with hotels.
 
5. Dress Code
 
* Business attire is required at all official meetings.
* Jeans are strictly prohibited.
* Accreditation passes must be worn at all times.

7. Media Coverage
 
There will be restricted media coverage of the 57th AEM Meeting and Related Meetings. A limited number of passes will be issued to journalists, photographers and cameramen who have been cleared to cover selected meetings within designated time slots.
 
The Official Media of ASEAN Member States (OM AMS) must register in advance to obtain access to cover relevant meetings.

9. General Information

9.1 Transportation & Immigration Requirement
There are daily direct flights provided by several airlines to Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 and Subang Skypark Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport via Brunei, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Singapore and Thailand.
 
MITEC, Kuala Lumpur is about 56 km from both Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminals 1 and 2, and approximately 23 km from Subang Skypark Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
 
Visa is not required for a stay of less than one (1) month for ASEAN nationals and Timor-Leste, except Myanmar. Details on entry requirement to Malaysia can be accessed at the official website of the Immigration Department of Malaysia https://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/home/.

Effective 1 January 2024, all foreign citizens travelling to Malaysia must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) via https://imigresenonline.imi.gov.my/mdac/main  three (3) days before arrival in Malaysia, except those listed below:

◦ Citizens of Singapore;
◦ Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders;
◦ General Certificate of Identity (GCI) Brunei Darussalam Holders;
◦ Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility Holders;
◦ Thailand Border Pass Holders; and
◦ Indonesia Cross-border Travel Document (PLB) Holders.
