Subsidiary KT System’s specialist credentials and 500kV capability position the group to pursue opportunities across Malaysia’s expanding power ecosystem KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Power infrastructure solutions and services are now a core business and new growth path for Jasa Kita Berhad after shareholders overwhelmingly approved the group’s strategic diversification into the sector at an extraordinary general meeting today.
The approval follows Jasa Kita’s acquisition of KT System Sdn Bhd, an established electrical engineering specialist with more than 35 years of experience in high-voltage testing, commissioning and protection systems.
The diversification forms part of a strategy developed following the group’s change in leadership in late 2025 to build sustainable new earnings platforms alongside its established industrial distribution businesses.
“With KT System, Jasa Kita is entering this sector from a position of technical credibility,” said Jasa Kita group managing director Dato’ Sri Iskandar Mizal Mahmood. “It gives us an established platform from which to provide services and solutions across the power infrastructure value chain while building a sustainable new earnings stream for the group.”
KT System specialises in inspecting, testing, commissioning and maintaining electrical systems used in transmission, distribution, power generation and solar projects. It also provides consulting and management services in power system protection.
The company is licensed by the Energy Commission to conduct testing and commissioning work on systems of up to 500 kilovolts (500kV), the highest voltage level used by Malaysia’s National Grid. It is a CIDB-registered G7 contractor, a registered service provider and contractor with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and a registered product and services provider with PETRONAS.
Its track record includes extra-high-voltage substations, power-generation facilities and nationwide 33kV to 500kV substation assignments for TNB from the 1990s through 2025. It has also worked on KLIA2, LRT3, MRT2 and multiple large-scale solar plants, with other organisations in its project record including Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, PETRONAS, ABB, Siemens, Hyundai, Nur Power, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Energy Berhad.
“This combination of experience, licences, high-voltage capability and customer relationships places KT System in a highly specialised segment of the market,” said Iskandar.
“Beyond KT System’s established core, we see ample opportunities to support projects across the full power ecosystem, spanning conventional and renewable generation, transmission, distribution, battery energy storage systems, industrial and critical power, data centres and smart-grid and digital-power applications. Our role is to provide specialist services and solutions to asset owners and operators, not to become an independent power producer.”
The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation projects that peak electricity demand in Peninsular Malaysia will increase by about 57%, from 21.3GW in 2026 to 33.5GW by 2035. Data centre electricity consumption is forecast to rise from 10,544GWh to 73,274GWh over the same period, increasing its share of Peninsular Malaysia’s electricity consumption from approximately 7% to 31%.
Based on management’s planning assumptions, the broader annual Malaysian power infrastructure opportunity is estimated at RM40 billion to RM50 billion. Testing, protection and specialist engineering are estimated to represent about 1.5% to 4% of project value, indicating an annual specialist market of approximately RM600 million to RM2 billion.
Iskandar added: “KT System’s 500kV capability, specialist credentials and established project record place Jasa Kita in a distinctive position within a niche market and provide a strong foundation from which to pursue opportunities across the power infrastructure spectrum.”
“We are a responsible company and will expand prudently, weighing the data, market demand, available opportunities and our ability to execute. The size of the market is important but disciplined execution will determine how much of it we pursue.”
The group’s immediate priority is to deepen KT System’s core testing, commissioning and protection capabilities, including validation and energisation, while increasing project capacity and building a larger recurring base of inspection and maintenance work.
The next phase will focus on broader lifecycle assurance, including monitoring, asset health and maintenance. Opportunities in battery energy storage systems, data centres, new generation and renewable-energy projects and selected ASEAN markets will also be pursued selectively.
In a separate resolution at the EGM, shareholders also approved Jasa Kita’s proposed acquisition of a 55% equity interest in SPPH Eco Biomass Resources Sdn Bhd. Through SPPH, the group would gain an interest in a 110.087-acre land parcel near Kuantan Port with an indicated market value of RM50 million, providing a strategic asset within the greater Kuantan industrial and logistics corridor.
